Simplifying Health: My Nutrition Coaching Process Explained

By now, you've seen a few of my posts on social media, you know my business name, but you may still be wondering what exactly I do and how it all works. So I'd like to give you more insight into what I do through Sunward Nutrition, how to become a client, and what working with me looks like.
My goal is to simplify the process of taking control of your health and to help you develop sustainable habits along the way. For example, maybe you lead a busy life, constantly on the go, and struggle to eat nutritious meals and get enough protein throughout the day. By working together, we can identify a habit or behavior change that best fits your schedule and lifestyle—one that helps you achieve the goal of eating more nutrient-dense meals and meeting your body's protein needs. Maybe that means setting aside a few hours on the weekend for meal prep, or perhaps making double portions at dinner to have leftovers for the next day works better for you. My role is to help you find what works best, providing the tools (including custom meal plans!), support, and accountability needed to turn these habits into a natural part of your daily and weekly routine.
That’s just one example, but let’s zoom out and go over the full process of becoming a client. If you have a specific health challenge or simply want to create better, more consistent habits that will improve and sustain your health over time, I’d love to help! A discovery call is a 15-minute phone conversation where we discuss your primary concern or goal and the type of support you need. This helps us determine whether we’re a good fit to work together. If your needs fall outside my scope, I will do my best to connect you with another practitioner who may be a better fit for you.
If we decide to move forward, we’ll schedule your consultation. While many people are familiar with this term, its meaning can vary depending on the context. At Sunward Nutrition, our consultation process is designed to give us a complete picture of your health history and a clear direction for your wellness journey. This session typically lasts 45-60 minutes, during which we thoroughly explore your background and work with you to define your health goals. The better we understand your unique situation, the more effectively we can support you.
With the insights gained from your consultation, we begin the nutrition coaching process. After reviewing all the information we’ve gathered, we’ll design a customized coaching plan tailored to your needs. The duration of the plan, the frequency of sessions, and the specific tools, meal plans, and resources we provide will be personalized to empower you in achieving your health goals.
Before diving into your customized plan, I have all my clients complete a 3-5 day food journal, documenting everything they eat and drink in detail. This exercise helps establish a starting point—the unedited version of your nutrition habits before making any changes—and provides valuable insight into how we can best support you. It can be tempting to make adjustments right away, but I always encourage my clients to resist that urge! There will be plenty of time for changes, and this step is crucial for understanding your patterns and needs before we begin making shifts.
In our first official session, we’ll review your food journal, discuss observations, and use this information—along with your health history—to take manageable steps toward the vision of health you’ve created for yourself. From there, each session builds upon these foundations, providing consistent support and guidance throughout our time working together.
